Delegates from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Addis Ababa on September 3, 2024, undertook a visit to observe the implementation of SWR Ethiopia hosted projects, namely ENSP and RAISE-FS, in the vicinity of Hawassa town. The visiting delegation, which included Hannah Haaij, First Secretary of Food & Nutrition Security and Cluster Coordinator for Climate, Water, and FNS, as well as Tesfahun Alemayehu, Senior Policy Advisor, had the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the initiatives.

During their visit, the delegates were able to witness the maize variety test for registration by the private seed company, Zimbabwean Mukushi Seeds, in collaboration with EIAR and ENSP project near Shashemene. Additionally, they were briefed on the ongoing wheat NPT trials at the Hawassa University campus by Dr. Mohammed Hassena, the ENSP project manager, who clarified the objectives of the experiments and the pivotal role played by ENSP in their execution.

In a subsequent engagement, the delegates were informed of the RAISE-FS supported interventions being carried out at Hawassa University. They were given a tour of soybean technology demonstrations on farmers’ fields and poultry farming pilots at the university campus. Dr. Agdew Bekele, the RAISE-FS Hawassa liaison office team lead, and Dr. Tewodrose, RAISE-FS focal person from Hawassa University, provided detailed explanations regarding the objectives of each intervention and shared insights on the progress achieved thus far.

Throughout the visit, the delegates posed pertinent questions, to which they received comprehensive responses from the project representatives. They expressed their appreciation for the nature of the interventions and commended the progress that has been realized thus far. Furthermore, they extended their gratitude for the warm hospitality extended to them and for the insightful explanations provided during the visit.
