Official Launch by HE Ambassador Deriba Kuma

The event culminated with a formal announcement by HE Ambassador Deriba Kuma, Director General of the Ethiopian Agricultural Authority (EAA). Ambassador Kuma underscored the vital role of seeds in agricultural development and addressed the current challenges within Ethiopia’s seed system. Noting that 80% of the seed system remains informal, he stressed the importance of establishing a regulatory framework that integrates both formal and informal systems. He assured participants of EAA’s commitment to ensuring a well-functioning and inclusive seed sector.

Resilient and bright future for Ethiopian seed sector

ESP introduces a comprehensive focus on addressing conflict, disaster, and climate-related shocks to Ethiopia’s agricultural system. The initiative will enhance humanitarian efforts with market-based responses and strategic seed reserves while strengthening farmer- and community-based seed systems.

The launch of ESP represents a collaborative effort to empower farmers, promote sustainable practices, and drive agricultural growth in Ethiopia. With strong backing from local authorities and international partners, this initiative is poised to make a lasting impact on Ethiopia’s agricultural resilience and food security.
